Characteristics: This species is hypothesized to be closely related to Aphyolebias peruensis (Myers) and Aphyolebias wischmanni (Seegers). The males share the same characteristic of a dark brown caudal fin with a light ventral edge. This species is distinguished by having narrow bars on the flanks and a low number of scales on the longitudinal series.
