Characteristics:	Considered to be closely related to Aphyolebias claudiae (Costa), Aphyolebias rubrocaudatus (Seegers) and Aphyolebias obliquus (Costa, Sarmiento & Barrera). All have an apomorphic black stripe on the ventral margin of male caudal fin. This species is diagnosed by the low number of pectoral-fin rays and low number of scales on the longitudinal series.
