| Abstract: | The clade herein denominated as the Austrolebias adloffi species-group is supported by an apomorphic male color pattern of male (dark gray to black vertical stripes on a bright gray ground color on body side) and a derived juvenile and female color pattern (a pair of black blotches, vertically arranged, on the posterior portion of caudal peduncle). It comprises Austrolebias adloffi, herein redescribed, and three new species herein described, all from southern Brazil. Austrolebias charrua sp. n., from the coastal plains adjacent to lagoa Mirim, is diagnosed by the higher counts of supraorbital neuromasts and longitudinal series scales. Austrolebias minuano sp. n., from the plains close to the southern tip of laguna dos Patos, is diagnosed by a deeper body and high number of second pharyngobranchial teeth. Austrolebias nigrofasciatus sp. n., from the inner drainages between laguna dos Patos and lagoa Mirim, is diagnosed by having fewer anal-fin rays and two unique color patterns in male. Austrolebias adloffi, from the lower rio Jacuí-Guaiba basin, is defined by the higher number of anal-fin rays of female and relative position of dorsal and anal-fin origin of female. |
