Here is the last information I've received from Heber Salvia, a ex-member of the Uruguayan study group of Cynolebias.

  • Type Locality: The Holotypus is a male, collected by H. Salvia, F. Prieto, J.J. Enriches and E. Perujo on 25th July 1993, in the Departamento of Tacuarembó in N.E. Uruguay, at Ruta 26 Km 331, in a temporarily flooded area of the Cañada (= brook) "Los Cinco Sauces", which is part of the Rio Negro drainage system. The geographical coordinates are 32° 10' ' S and 55° 15 '' E, collecting code Cxt-001/331. The Terra typica lies on both sides of Ruta 26, from km 331.5 to km 330,5. There are many pools adjacent to the brook "Los Cinco Sauces" of between 70 cm and 1 m deep.
    Distribution: Wide range in Uruguay including Rocha and Tacuarembo.
    Biotope: Sympatric with Austrolebias affinis
    Size: Males 6 - 7 cm, females 5 - 6 cm
