Abstract: Member of the Rivulus atratus species group, that includes Rivulus amanapira, Rivulus atratus, Rivulus ornatus, Rivulus rectocaudatus, Rivulus romeri, Rivulus tecminae and Rivulus uakti.

    Size: 4 cm
    Characteristics: This species is unique, unlike other Rivulus. The original description permits unambiguous identification of it. It is very small with a total length of no more than 32mm. It has a proportionally very large, high head. The caudal peduncle is very elongated. The region from the head to the caudal peduncle is flecked black. There are 3 or 4 transverse bands blotched on the flanks. There is no apparent sexual dimorphism. This species strictly inhabits the surface of the water and is unable to stay submerged.
