Synonyms:  
Type Locality: "Vivero Forestal El Varillal" (4º 04 S, 73º 27 W) 34 km from Iquitos on the road to Nauta, Peru.
Distribution: Found in a single location in Peru.
Biotope: Sympatric with Rivulus rectocaudatusat El Varillal.
Size: 7.5 cm
Characteristics: Large body, striped. The males have a series of long red-brown dots and yellow spots, on their flanks, on a base of pale green. Unpaired fins edged in pale yellow, darkening towards the edges. Female identically coloured but longer with the Rivulus spot at the base of the caudal fin. The fins are very lightly coloured. The species is similar in general appearance to Rivulus amphoreus & peruanus though it easy to distinguuish between them. Rivulus intermittens has a larger body and a half-linear colouration, whilst the other two species have dispersed red spots (amphoreus) and a mosaic of brown-red patches (peruanus).
