Abstract: Before the 1960's, Rivulus isthmensis was the sole Rivulus species reporteded from Costa Rica. It is the only Rivulus species found in the Central Valley region. It's distrbution is characterised by the fact that it is found from sea level to an altitude of 1500 m, one of the greatest altitudinal ranges of any fish in Costa Rica.
