Distribution: S.W. Costa Rica; Río Térraba and Coto drainages of S.E. Costa Rica; Panama
Biotope: Found in small slow-flowing streams along with Rivulus glaucus in S.E. Costa Rica. Found in the Rio Chaya, a small creek on the road from Rio Serrano to Paso Canoa. The creek has a substrate of mud, and in areas fallen leaves, some areas full sunlight others shaded. The Rivulus were found among sunken leaves and Brachyrhaphis roseni in open water.
