  • Type Locality: Pool near the confluence between the Bezerra and Parana Rivers, community of Arraias, State of Tocantins, east-central Brazil.
    Distribution: Temporary pools and swamps in the Parana River system of the southern state of Tocantins and the northern state of Goiás in eastern Brazil. Type locality: Pool near the confluence between the Bezerra and Parana Rivers, community of Arraias, State of Tocantins, east-central Brazil. "Nova Roma" Swamp close to Rio Parana, Road Iaciara-Nova Roma, Goiás State, Brazil, Rio Tocantins basin.
    Biotope: This species commonly occurs together with Cynolebias griseus, which inhabits the deeper parts of the biotope and probably preys upon them.
    Size: 6 - 7 cm
    Characteristics: A very showy and much sought-after species, with reddish stripes against a light blue background and extended filaments on the dorsal fin in older males.

  • Breeding: They are bottom spawning annual fish. Fairly long-lived and prefers higher temperatures than many of the other Cynolebias species.
