Species Maintenance Programs

The Species Maintenance Programs of the SAA are directed at preserving species in the hobby as well as securing the future of endangered species. We do not aim to preserve every single strain in the hobby or every wild population but rather focus on the species. For this task one or more strains may be focused on but always the goal is to preserve the species above any one strain.

If you should choose to join us in this task you would have to pledge to the following goals and methods:

  • Maintain the species for 2 or more years.
  • Activley distribute fish and eggs.
  • Swop eggs of the same species with other members of the mainteance group at least every three generations
  • To maintain the genetic fitness and variability of the fish by performing out crosses.
  • To cross with the most distantly related strain.
  • Maintain accurate record to [track lineages] and keep track of to whom fish were distributed.

A feed back form where you can volunteer can be found [here].
